It’s time once again for Dragon Con’s Dragon Awards. Just like everything else about Dragon Con this is by the people, for the people. Regular schmucks like you and me sent in nominations. Well, you might not be a schmuck, but I sure am. And these same schmucks will pick the winners. Heck, you don’t even have to be going to Dragon Con to vote. I mean I hope you are going, but if you can’t then you can still be part of the action. Between this, and the ability to stream DCTV would be just like being there. Just register to vote here, confirm your email, and you’ll receive your ballot in a few days. Voting is open until Saturday August 31st, but you’ll be busy by then. So vote early, but not often. That’s one of the rules. I’ll admit that I don’t know everything about the nominees in each category. I do know something about a least one thing in every category though. That’s enough information to vote with. So go ahead and get voting. I’ll be back soon to let you guys know where you can find me, and other members of the Needless Things at Dragon Con.

I feel more ready for Dragon Con than I have in years. Continue reading “The Dragon Con 2019 Progress Report”
Well, it’s just over a month until Dragon Con. What does that mean? First, it means that I need to start drinking Emergen-C right freaking now. It also means that there are some status reports, updates, and press releases I need to get out into the world. Guests are still being added, and track schedules are far from finalized (drink if you even thought about asking when the app would be updated). There are still lots of exciting things that we do know so far. I’m gonna clear out a few updates and press releases before getting into the guests I really want to see this year. So much going on, and so little time before the party starts. I can’t believe that this will be my fifth year as a Dragon Con reporter. It seems like just yesterday I was taking “calming” shots to settle my nerves before my first interview. My nerves still get a little shaky even after all this time. So if you go to an early or mid-day panel where I’m speaking give me a big thumbs up for not dropping an f-bomb in front of your kid. Continue reading “Dragon Con 2019 – Press Release and Big Guests”
Sometimes you have to post something from a site that no longer exists just so that you can turn it into Dragon Con media relations. Sometimes the head of the site you write for changes the entire thing immediately after Dragon Con. These is/are one of those times. So if you read this on the old site I won’t be offended if you don’t read it again. Continue reading “Dragon Con 2018 – The Dragon Awards”
If you missed part 1 of my recap you can go here to get caught up.
Now where were we? Oh yes, Thursday evening. I hung out with Rich near the ballroom where DCW would be happening, and had a few drinks to ready myself. I don’t know if it’s because everyone new about the new official start day or wrestling has just gotten that popular, but the line went on forever. We stood with the Hooligans in the overflow area for ages as the line just kept coming. It was starting to look like the room would fill before we could get in. That was certainly not going to happen to us so we started frantically messaging Schweck (who was inside reserving our rows of seats) to come out and get us. He finally did, but once inside it turned out that some interlopers had joined us. I didn’t mind sitting in the second row; until Noel and Rebeccah left for another event, and Rich moved to the first row. So there I was all alone with only a few total strangers in my row. I stuck it out for a little while. I did get to see Sting, Lita, and Ric Flair at least. After a bit I did miss having someone to talk to so I wandered off in search of something slightly more social. I ran into Dave, Ryan Cadaver, and Nicole at the Hilton and the dance party of foolishness began. “Hilton World” was a nice touch. I like that they went with a theme, and apparently so did some of the people wearing inflatable dinosaur costumes. I mean, it did fit with their whole thing after all. Once the dinos hit the floor the DJ decided to make it extra, and played “Walk the Dinosaur “. Look it up youngsters. Much drinking, dancing, and general silliness ensued. Things got even better once wrestling let out and a bunch more people joined the party. Continue reading “Beth’s Dragon Con Recap: Part Two”
Another year, another Dragon Con gone. I never feel like I’ve done anything, but I always feel like I’m Danny Glover by the time it’s over (as in “getting too old for this shit” if that wasn’t clear). I assume this recap will happen in two posts, but it always gets away from me. I begin with the clear intention of not boring you to death. Then I’ll start writing, and things will just get longer. “Remember how that was fun?” or “I have a vague memory of that other thing being an awesome time!”, and it goes on and on from there. It’s like a big cable knit sweater that someone just keeps knitting, and knitting, and knitting… Continue reading “Beth’s Dragon Con Recap: Part One”
