Game of Thrones – The Final Episodes

By now we’ve all seen plenty of anger directed at the last season of Game of Thrones. I’m not into that petition bullshit, and I don’t want to spread more anger out into the internet than is already there. People are truly mad about the wrong things lately if you want my opinion. I thought it might be more fun to take a look back to the start of the season, and check out the predictions I made of who would live, and who would die. I got some pretty big ones wrong. I still don’t know what I was thinking with Varys. I’ll also provide a bit of commentary about their fates. Because I’m just not me if I’m not making comments about shit. If you want to revisit the full season 8 episode 1 review you can do so. Otherwise I’ll just give you the list of characters I called with thoughts and results below.

Game of Thrones – The Long Night

A little over a week ago I saw an article with the headline that last week’s episode of Game of Thrones would feature the longest battle ever filmed, and be more epic than Helm’s Deep from The Lord of the Rings trilogy. I knew immediately I’d be writing about an episode with such lofty claims. Helm’s Deep is my measuring stick for battles. Game of Thrones has done some pretty epic stuff, but nothing that could compare to that. I figured even if it didn’t live up to its assertions it would probably still be pretty fucking great. As soon as I knew I’d absolutely be writing about The Long Night I messaged Dave to tell him so. Then, just a few days ago, he told me he was writing about this episode too. And posting it a day before I post. I’m certainly not going to change my plans for him so this week you get two views of the same show. If there’s some redundancy you can blame him for taking my thing this week. You certainly can’t blame me for spoilers though since I’m warning you now. I checked his this morning just to make sure there wasn’t too much overlap between what we thought. There really isn’t so please feel free to read both, and get every opinion ever. Game of Thrones: Winterfell

Game of Thrones: The Reunion Episode. Oh wait, it was called Winterfell. But there sure as hell were a lot of reunions. Arya and The Hound, Arya and Gendry (was she flirting?), Arya and Jon (so sweet), Jon and Bran, Jon and Sam, Theon and Yara, Theon and his balls (figuratively speaking), Tyrion and Sansa, and (most awkward of all) Jamie and Bran. It seemed like a lot of feels and set-up for it being a season premiere, but I appreciate that they’re getting all this shit out of the way quickly. Too quickly, since this episode wasn’t even quite an hour long. There’s a whole lot of action coming so we need to move it forward super fast I guess.

I’m not going to recap every single scene. I’m more here to talk about how I felt about the episode, what I think some of these things mean, and what could be coming next. Needless to say: spoilers are coming either way. If you haven’t seen the first episode of season 8 turn back before it’s too late.

Game of Thrones is Coming

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m getting pretty impatient for the last season of Game of Thrones. There are only a few long months to wait, but I can’t seem to find any real facts about what’s coming up. The cast is keeping quiet, and they’re even filming fake scenes to keep leakers from leaking. Telling me that what’s coming will make the Battle of the Bastards seem like nothing doesn’t help. Personally, I thought Hardhome was a better fight, but I guess Peter Dinklage disagrees. Maybe I only prefer Hardhome because it looks like what would happen if the cover of a metal album came to life. Regardless, I can’t stand all this waiting without even a hint of what I’m waiting for. So in the face of no facts I thought I’d bring you some hardcore nerd conjecture. The only real spoilers are for a book that isn’t (and may never be) out yet. Either you’re already up to speed or you only watch the show and don’t care about the books.
