Needless Things Podcast 273 – Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan Needless Commentary

Part of an ongoing series – the Needless Things Irregulars gather in the Phantom Zone to provide their own unique commentary on classic genre films!

After a thrilling NTP Facebook poll, the Crystal Lake Killer Jason Voorhees defeated the Prince of Polka “Weird Al” Yankovic when a tied vote led to a Mrs. Troublemaker run-in, resulting in Friday the 13th Part VIII taking the July Needless Commentary crown!
Released on July 28th, 1989, Jason Takes Manhattan was the highest budgeted Friday the 13th movie to date. Those extra dollars didn’t help because it also yielded the poorest box office. Taking the masked killer out of his natural environment was an inspired and interesting decision, but it would take a strong story with a commitment to quality to pull it off.
Listen in as Dave, Arian, Ryan, and Nicole discuss the commitment to quality and the strength of the story in this month’s Needless Commentary!

Needless Things Podcast 270 – The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou Needless Commentary

Part of an ongoing series – the Needless Things Irregulars gather in the Phantom Zone to provide their own unique commentary on classic genre films!

What better way to kick off another Needless Summer than with a trip to the ocean with Steve Zissou?

This month’s Commentary was chosen by Ryan Cadaver, but is mutually adored throughout the team. Bill Murray leads one of the most remarkable casts ever assembled in what might be Wes Anderson’s most mainstream and watchable film. While the trademark unique, quirky style is present in abundance, The Life Aquatic’s narrative is fast-paced and perhaps more of a standard cinematic storytelling experience than any other Anderson film.

Listen in as Dave, Arian, Ryan, and Nicole raid the Hennessey Sea Lab for this month’s Needless Commentary!

We’re on the Road to WrestleMania, so it’s time for a wrestling-adjacent Commentary! Stone Cold Steve Austin is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time, so it seemed right to choose one of his films – Hunt to Kill!
Part Commando, part The Most Dangerous Game, and all whoop-ass action, this 2010 action flick pits the Rattlesnake against a motley crew of criminals. Among the supporting cast are Michael Eklund, Eric Roberts, and a scenery-chewing Gil Bellows of Ally McBeal fame!

Part of an ongoing series – the Needless Things Irregulars gather in the Phantom Zone to provide their own unique commentary on classic genre films!

In an almost Santa Claus-like manner, our friend Chad J. Shonk swooped in to save the holidays with some Star Wars magic in the form of Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure!
In 1984, George Lucas wanted some of that sweet, sweet television revenue but was still smarting from the hideous embarrassment of the Star Wars Holiday Special. So he took the reins himself and oversaw production on an all-new adventure featuring the inhabitants of Endor’s moon.
That’s right – we here at Needless Things can’t go a Christmas season without some good, old-fashioned Star Wars action, so it’s time to sit down and snuggle with the Galaxy’s most lovable little cannibals, the Ewoks!
Listen in as Dave, Battle Cougar, Ryan Cadaver, Rad Ranger, Arian, and special guest Chad J. Shonk travel to a galaxy far, far away for this month’s Needless Commentary!
