Needless Things Podcast 295 – May the Toys Be With You

https://www.podbean.com/media/share/pb-jz5zb-ca4198

Dave and Head of Research Ryan Schweck dive into everything that’s happened in the world of Star Wars toys since Triple Force Friday, as well as sharing some thoughts on The Mandalorian!

October 4th, 2019 was the launch date for the newest barrage of Star Wars merchandise, only this time Disney was tying their products into not just one, not two, but three new media projects.
The first, obviously, was December 20th’s Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. This is the latest cinematic Star Wars release and the conclusion of the so-called “Skywalker Saga” that began with Star Wars in 1977.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a new video game from publisher Electronic Arts. It was released on November 15th, 2019 and so far has seen a positive reception.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, after decades of speculation and false starts, the first-ever live action Star Wars show debuted on the Disney+ streaming service on November 12th.
Each of these landmarks in the era of Disney Star Wars has waves of merchandise currently available. Starting with the main rollout in October and followed by seemingly weekly additions by way of exclusives and new reveals, Hasbro, Funko, and many other manufacturers have flooded the market with new and exciting products.
PLUS! A very special Christmas memory from Dave’s Mom!

On this week’s episode, Dave welcomes horror aficionado and host of the Seeking Human Victims podcast, Reverend Dan Wilson!
Dan returns to the show to discuss a very special topic – Jason Voorhees! More specifically, toys and action figures that have been based on Jason over the years. As one of the most toyetic slashers in film history thanks to his large stature and immediately recognizable hockey mask, Jason has been adapted in plastic many times over the years.
Listen in as Dave and the Rev look back through history at all of the tiny – and some not-so-tiny – Jasons that have stalked our shelves!

https://www.podbean.com/media/share/pb-s6s5z-c2da7a

Part of an ongoing series – the Needless Things Irregulars gather in the Phantom Zone to provide their own unique commentary on classic genre films!

It’s the spooky season, so a Halloween movie was a must, and while there are plenty of movies called Halloween… there are also a bunch called Trick or Treat, apparently. But this one features Rock’s Chosen Warrior, Sammi Curr!
Also starring Gene Simmons, Ozzy Osbourne, and Marc Price (Skippy from Family Ties), this film follows outcast metalhead Eddie Weinbauer – aka Ragman for… some reason – as he learns about life, love, and not letting an evil heavy metal icon who has been resurrected through the power of backmasking electrocute his friends.

Needless Things Podcast 283 – Heavy Metal Needless Commentary

https://www.podbean.com/media/share/pb-pnrzk-c027f9

Part of an ongoing series – the Needless Things Irregulars gather in the Phantom Zone to provide their own unique commentary on classic genre films!

Special guests Dan Kelly and Evil Jim join the Commentary Team for the legendary 1981 animated feature Heavy Metal!
A truly magnificent feat of genre storytelling, Heavy Metal features the talents of John Candy, Joe Flaherty, Rodger Bumpass, Eugene Levy, Harold Ramis, Marilyn Lightstone, and dozens more providing voices for some of the most striking and innovative animation of the era. A phenomenal team of artists brought life to stories from Dan O’Bannon, Richard Corben, Bernie Wrightson and more; all set to a driving soundtrack that deserves its own paragraph:
As if the animation and voice acting weren’t accomplishment enough, the filmmakers compiled an amazing selection of pure rock to accompany the visuals – Sammy Hagar, Devo, Blue Öyster Cult, Cheap Trick, Black Sabbath, and Grand Funk Railroad are just a few of the bands that contributed to the aural power of the film, while the incredible Elmer Bernstein provided the score!
Listen in as Jim, Dan, and the entire team sell their souls for rock n’ roll in this month’s Needless Commentary!
